Bits & Bobs

bits-bobsOne of my favorite places to go to in Malibu is the Shabby Chic store. Now mind you, I usually can’t afford anything in this store, but sometimes I come across something that not only makes me smile, but is affordable- in a Malibu sense of the word.

The Bits and Bobs Crown Jar is one of those items that makes me smile and I think, would make a great gift for your bridesmaids. Fill it up with anything from candies to some of you and your partners favorite things. Hand make a custom tag, slap it on with a ribbon that matches your wedding color theme and you will have a great keepsake jar that will make your bridesmaids feel like royalty because it was semi-handmade by you.

A Lill Great Idea…

lill-studio-chicago1I am from Chicago, but now live in LA so anytime I stumble onto an idea that might benefit Chicago brides to be, I will share it. Lill Studio in Chicago gives you the opportunity to design your own pillow. They even have a fabric called Blushing Bride. You can book a “Design a Pillow” party for your bridesmaids. How cool is that!

When you are not used to sleeping next to someone, sharing a bed can sometimes be a little strange especially when you are sharing a bed with a male friend. Joel and I came back to the motel and decided to hit the sack. We were exhausted from the long drive and the meeting with the crew about tomorrow morning’s shoot lasted a lot longer then we had anticipated. Read more»

Pillow Mints

Pillow Mints I saw these cute mint pillows mentioned on a $10,000 wedding blog. What a great idea for wedding favors if you are a bride on a budget. I thought they were relevant since they can be sewn and are called pillows. Click on the photo and it will link to the directions on greetingarts.

Dream Pillow # 3

Dream Pillow #3

This pillow was inspired by my sister-in-law’s cousin Cindy. She said I should make a pillow with a little bling. It was a little more challenging because the fabric itself is corduroy and the Rhinestone was extremely delicate to glue on. Lesson: Small rhinestone and long fingers do not necessary get along. So for all the Diva’s out there…This one is for you! If you are interested in helping our wedding dream come true the donation for Dream Pillow #3 is $25 plus shipping. The pillow measures 16X16, the material is corduroy and has the word DIVA spelled out in Rhinestones. Thank you for supporting our dream!

Love story continues… Today was the busiest day so far at Jan’s because everyone was finalizing details for the trip to Sonoma. Joel was confirming the locations for the different shoots and putting together the call-times for the crews. John was running in three different directions, Jan was like the conductor at the symphony making all the different instruments play the same tune. I just sat there observing, taking it all in. Dream Pillow #2

Thank you for helping to support our dream.
This pillow was sold on March 7, 2009!

It is such a wonderful experience to learn something new. Instead of fearing my sewing machine I am starting to look forward to sitting down and creating a new pillow. This pillow was a bit easier to make and reminds me of blooming spring flowers. The whole process has been very rewarding. I am entering into a world that I had no idea existed. Slowly discovering all the little things that go into making hand crafted items is just a hoot. I found this great fabric store in LA called http://www.diamondfoamandfabric.com/ It is filled with row after row of the most unique fabrics I have ever seen. The best part is that you can take samples of the fabric you are interested in, home. The fabrics are a bit on the pricey side so I will have to aspire to this place, but for now I still shop the bargain bins at good ole’ Joanne Fabrics.

At the end of the day Jan always had her margarita hour so it was then that John came over to me and said, “I am sorry, but I have had a really long day and just flew in from Alaska. When I saw you sitting at my desk, I had no idea what to think and overreacted. I understand that you will be helping us on our cooking show and traveling with us to Sonoma…Finish your drink…” Read more»

John’s Pillow Talk…

We all know Frances is a bit shy. People that know me, understand I don’t care. Being out in public with me is always an experience as Frances can attest. She has often chided me, much to her own regret, for having to try to become every dog’s new best friend. Because I wake up earlier than Frances on the weekends, I head out for walks on Runyon Canyon while I leave her to sleep like a princess. Read more»

Welcome to 1000 Pillows

This blog was originally created to sell 1000 handmade pillows to raise money for my wedding, but sometimes life has other plans in store. John and I decided not to wait until we could raise money for the wedding because my grandmother is sick... read more »
